From fresh produce to organic goodies these markets offer the best of nature’s bounty
– By Arzoo Dina
There’s just something about spending your Sunday morning strolling through your neighbourhood farmer’s market, discovering vendors selling fresh, seasonal produce and even environmentally-conscious brands. As consumers become more discerning and aware of what they purchase and how it impacts not just their health, but the planet as well, organic collectives and farmers markets are becoming a steady go-to. We’ve spotlighted several that are worth visiting across Mumbai.
The Green Co-Op, Jio World Drive, BKC
This outdoor weekend market housed in the premises of the Jio World Drive mall, hosts local, organic producers and conscious brands where you can purchase everything from farm-fresh veggies and greens to seasonal fruits, pantry staples, flowers and artisanal products ranging from organic teas to chocolates and more. Plus, you can bring your furry friends along as the mall is pet-friendly. The vendors change almost weekly, so you have something new to look forward to ever so often.
When: every weekend from 4pm to 10pm
Where: Jio World Drive, Bandra Kurla Complex
The Farmer’s Market, Bandra
One of the longest-running farmer’s markets in the city, organised by Kavita Mukhi, this market pops up every Sunday in the leafy suburb of Bandra. The idea is to connect folks in the city with rural, certified organic farmers so you can purchase fresh produce directly from them. You can buy everything from grains and spices to fruits and vegetables, ghee, oils, condiments, home care products and much more. The market is also a go-to place for me to buy organic veggies and fruits.
When: every Sunday from 9am to 3pm
Where: YMCA Bandra, off Carter Road
Sharan Organic Farmers Market
In an attempt to give organic and small-scale farmers a chance to showcase their produce and sell directly to consumers, SHARAN started a series of organic farmers markets across the city. Currently running is the Juhu Organic Farmers Market which takes place every Sunday. You can purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and other groceries and also connect with brands selling a range of conscious products.
When: every Sunday from 9am to 1pm
Where: Champak Studios, next to Yashraj studios, Fun Republic Lane, Andheri West.
